Penis size doesn’t have to be a dick-measuring contest. But it can be! (The prize? A very annoyed partner.) If you’re curious about what the average girth size is, keep reading.
Just remember at the end of the day, it’s not whether he’s hung like a tuna can or a pencil but how well he communicates with you. Just kidding! It’s all about dick size.
What Is Average Girth Size?
Girth size is the circumference of the penis. The average girth size of an erect penis is 4.59 inches (11.66 cm) and the average length is 5.16 inches (13.12 cm). (The average girth of a flaccid penis is 3.67 inches (9.31 cm) and length is 3.61 inches (9.16 cm).
We know this because some completely non-pervy scientists at King’s College in London studied the length and girth size of more than 15,000 penises around the globe.
Length Vs Girth: Does Either Really Matter?
We asked Lorrae Bradbury, sexpert and founder of Slutty Girl Problems, to give us the 411 on penis size.
For all you size queens: Size isn’t everything.
Bradbury says, “Personally, some of the worst sex that I’ve had has been with partners with huge length and girth, because there is a misconception that all they have to do is thrust and their partner will be moaning in pleasure like they see depicted in porn.”
“In reality, sex is much more dynamic and is often a full-body experience that requires more clever positioning and different types of motions to get off.”
Ok, but what about dudes whose penises are tiny? Should we worry? Because according to his private diary, he seems pretty worried about it.
But Bradbury says that one of her friends had the most intense orgasms of her life with a partner who has a micropenis (medically defined as shorter than 3.67 inches, flaccid and stretched).
No matter what your partner’s length or girth, you should both communicate and try, as Bradbury says, “To move in just the right motions, without having it [a penis] uncomfortably hit your cervix or be too deep.” (Unless, of course, you like it like that!)
If Your Partner Has a Thin Penis, Here’s How to Make It Feel Bigger
Ask him to get in touch with himself. He probably does this every day, so he’ll need little prompting. But his understanding of what he likes, how his penis reacts to touch, etc., will help him get you off, too. In the meantime, you go do you.
Bradbury says, “It’s important for everyone to understand their own body, what turns them on, and gets them off; whether it’s a certain angle, tempo, position, or stimulation.”
“The more you know and understand your own body, the more you can share that knowledge with your partner, and use your sexual skills and different positions to target your most pleasurable zones.”
For example, a partner with a thinner penis may be able to hit your G-spot without causing you pain or hitting your cervix. Bradbury recommends that couples explore “any position where you can focus on a more rhythmic grind, back and forth, or side to side motions” or clitoral stimulation — especially since few women can orgasm from vaginal stimulation alone.
In fact, some researchers postulate that a vaginal orgasm is literally impossible. Kinda like 24-hour tantric sex sessions — we hear they happen, but no one we know has had sex with Sting, so how can we know for sure?
Bradbury also emphasizes that partners can stimulate one another internally, with penetration, and externally.
“Oral sex, fingering, and all other types of play should be incorporated throughout sex — it all counts, and it can be used in combination to bring more pleasure than any penis can bring alone!” (She didn’t really exclaim that, but we were so excited we gave her an exclamation point!)
Tips for Managing a Super Girthy Penis
Ok, so your partner is so big your initial thought was, Oh, hell no. That’s way too big. Of course your second thought might’ve been, I’d like a canned soda.
So then what?
While most guys probably don’t think having a giant dick is a problem, it can be uncomfortable for women. If you find yourself in this position — and we do love sex positions — you’re going to need two things: Lube and patience. A lot of both, actually.
When in doubt, go slow. Bradbury says, “Many women report that their partners are overly focused on a thrusting or jackhammer motion, which can be uncomfortable and doesn’t provide much clitoral stimulation.”
(Fun fact? Penis are ineffective jackhammers and rarely used on construction sites!)
If your partner has a penis that’s above average girth, consider re-thinking sex positions, motions, and techniques. “It can be helpful to have the receiver on top so that they can control the speed, depth, and motion. Try focusing on circular motions, grinding, back and forth, or leaning over to get more contact versus in-and-out thrusting,” Bradbury says.
Bradbury reminds partners that no matter how big a penis is, most people with vaginas need clitoral stimulation to orgasm. And, when it comes to that, the coital alignment technique can work well.
How Much Does It Cost to Change Girth Size?
If your partner won’t let go of the idea of altering their girth size, here’s how much that’s gonna cost.
Products like the Ohnut help couples control the depth of penetration, but it’s harder to find solutions for very thin or thick penises. Penis pumps, prosthetics, and silicone sleeves are also options to temporarily enlarge penis girth. They also make fun Yankee swap gifts!
The Penuma procedure is currently the only FDA-approved cosmetic surgery to enhance girth size. During this procedure, surgeons implant medical-grade silicone under the skin. They’re like tiny breast implants, but for the penis.
These bigger dicks demand a big price. The surgery costs around $15,000 and involves risks associated with invasive surgeries.
Instead of altering your size, Bradbury (and most women — us included) think he should skip the enhancements and that y’all work with the penis as it is: “If you want to explore how girth, length, and shape change sensation, you can try a toy kit with differently sized or shaped toys and experiment with different positions to see how to maximize sensation.”
In short, when you and your partner are attuned to each other’s pleasure, any size penis can be a good penis.
