Your Guide to the 5 Different Types of Tequila

Tequila must be made in one of 5 states in Mexico
Most is made in Jalisco, but some is made in Guanajuato, Nayarit, Michoacán, and Tamaulipas.
Blanco
Slightly sweet. Not aged, or aged only up to 2 months. Good for margaritas. Also known as: Silver, White, Plata
Joven
Sometimes gold in color. Can be mixed with coloring agents, so look for those that say 100% agave. Good for margaritas. Also known as: Gold, Oro, Dorado
Reposado
Has hints of oak and vanilla. Aged in wood casks 2 months to one year. Good for margaritas.
Añejo
Rich and smooth. Aged in oak barrels for at least one year. Best enjoyed neat.
Extra Añejo
Very smooth. Aged in container with max capacity of 600 liters for at least three years. Best enjoyed neat.
